The NOT-QUITE STATES OF AMERICA

Resources

Here are some territory news outlets, local history centers, advocacy organizations, and other resources to help you learn more about the territories, their histories, and their critical issues. More resources coming soon.

GENERAL

The nation's only organization dedicated to advocating for the territories collectively. They played a major role in the recent American Samoa citizenship case, as well as an active effort to allow territory residents to vote for president (currently, they cannot).

In 2014, Harvard Law School hosted a conference about the Insular Cases, the Supreme Court rulings that put the territories in a different class from the states ("foreign in a domestic sense," as one majority opinion put it). All of the conference sessions were taped and are available to view; they offer an excellent primer on the major legal and political issues surrounding the territories.
